Sometimes it’s hard to keep up with all the new Apple products that continually come out. iPhones, especially, come out just about every year. There’s always that question of whether you should upgrade, or should you wait?
Getting a new phone with expanded features is hard to resist, but it also means additional cost. You might always be making an iPhone payment to your mobile carrier if you end up upgrading every time there is a new release. You also run the risk of getting locked out of your iPhone when going through the process.
There’s having to learn a new interface or get iPhone tutoring because a new device is going to mean a different user interface, different features, etc.
Often the decision about whether to upgrade comes down to a few key items:
Can you afford the upgrade?
Is your old phone several models behind and getting slower or is it just barely a year old?
Does the new phone model offer enough features to make the upgrade worth the time, money, and effort?
The latest model to come out is the iPhone 13. Is it worth the upgrade?
I’ll go through some of the key features that will help you decide whether you need to upgrade now or wait a few years.
iPhone 13 Features That Might Make an Upgrade Worth It
More Battery Life
One of the biggest complaints many people have when it comes to their smartphones is the battery life. We always want more of it!
If you are one of those people that seems to run low on battery power often, causing you to miss calls or rush to find a charge, then iPhone 13 might be worth the upgrade.
This iPhone has up to 2.5 hours more battery life for iPhone 13 and up to 1.5 hours more on the smaller iPhone 13 mini.
Twice the Storage
If you take a lot of family photos and videos, then phone storage might be an issue for you. No one likes having to delete photos because the phone’s storage is full.
iPhone 13 starts with 128GB of storage space; this is double what its predecessor started at.
New A15 Bionic Chip
One of the biggest differences between the iPhone 13 and the iPhones that came before it is the addition of the A15 Bionic chip. This is a chip that powers the phone’s “brain” and how it processes information.
If you do a lot on your phone, such as playing games, watching videos, or surfing online, you might improve the experience by upgrading to get this chip.
According to Apple, the A15 Bionic chip brings the following advantages over the competition:
Up to 50% faster speeds (meaning less lag time when doing things on your phone)
Up to 30% faster graphics (meaning a boost in speed if you enjoy playing games on your phone)
Improved Photo Quality With More Light
You may be wondering, ‘How much better can photos get on a smartphone?” because it seems like every model promises higher quality photos.
The iPhone 13 promises this as well, and one way that it delivers is by having the main phone lens let in 47% more light than earlier versions.
Another way that taking great photos is made easier is through a new feature called Photographic Styles. These are somewhat like filters, only they apply before you even take the photo and allow you to see what they look like when you’re lining up your shot.
They also apply adjustments automatically. You can choose between styles like vibrant, rich contrast, warm, cool, and others.
Model Options & Prices
You have four models to choose from which are very similar to the options offered when iPhone 12 came out. Having different models to choose from is helpful if you want to get the upgraded features for a lower price.
It can also make a decision harder if you’re not sure why to get one model over the other.
One of the main differences is size. The Mini has a 5.4” display and the regular iPhone 13 has a 6.1” display.
The other main difference is between the normal iPhone, the Pro, and the Pro Max. The Pro Max is the largest of them all, with a 6.7” display screen. The other differences between the two Pro options and the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini have to do with better camera quality and more photo-taking options and a faster A15 Bionic chip.
Models and pricing are:
iPhone 13 Mini: $699 (128 GB storage) or $999 (512 GB storage)
iPhone 13: $799 (128 GB storage) or $1,099 (512 GB storage)
iPhone 13 Pro: $999 (128 GB storage) or $1,299 (512 GB storage)
iPhone 13 Pro Max: $1,099 (128 GB storage) or $1,399 (512 GB storage)
